About Us
medis has been founded in 1991 as a spin-off of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of the Technical University Ilmenau. Our highly qualified and experienced team is focused on the development and the manufacturing of innovative diagnostic measuring systems based on non-invasive technologies and allowing simultaneous analysis of different bio-medical signals. This approach opens new prospects for enhanced patient monitoring and cardio-vascular diagnosis suitable also for screening tests. Our devices are configurable and combinable to meet very different diagnostic needs and are designed to be easy to use and cost-effective. Our close relationship to users is an important source for our product development. The products are sold worldwide in cooperation with local distributors whereby our motivated team provides excellent after-sales and service support.
Merger with ELCAT
The merger of medis Medizinische Messtechnik GmbH and ELCAT GmbH, effective July 1, 2026, marks the beginning of a new chapter in the companies’ history. Both companies share many years of experience in the development of innovative medical technology, as well as a common understanding of quality, precision, and customer focus.
The merger combines the expertise of both companies. While medis has been a leader in non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostics and patient monitoring for over three decades, ELCAT brings its comprehensive expertise in the development and manufacture of medical technology systems, as well as Doppler ultrasound technology. Together, this creates an even broader portfolio of products and solutions.
For our customers, the merger means, above all, continuity and added strength: proven products, personal points of contact, and reliable service will remain in place — supplemented by greater innovative power, combined expertise, and new opportunities for the medical technology of tomorrow.
